Goodbye - McCartney’s demo enhanced

August 16, 2008 by nowhere man · 4 Comments

In 2000, John Weber and John Camatelfoo (both guys hail from a Beatles fan forum) took me up on a project to augment unreleased Beatles demos.  They decided to enhance Paul Mccartney’s 1968 demo ‘Goodbye’.  This was a song that Paul gave away to Mary Hopkins.

I loved the results - though as John Weber acknowledged, the drums could have been better.  And with the resources and time, real horns would have been nice.  It’s still exceptional work.  John Camatelfoo’s Beatlesque harmonies are legendary. And he doesn’t fail to disappoint on this track.  In all my years, I’ve never heard better sounding fab four type backing harmonies.  It’s as if John and George are backing Paul on this track.

And thanks Robert (allabest) for putting together this excellent video.

On the 12th and 13th of July 2001, John hurriedly recorded a track that he had recently heard by an English band. He then excitedly told his friends in his favorite newsgroup: “Hear my version of ‘Yellow’ Read more

John Weber, Pigs on the Wing (punk version)

July 26, 2008 by nowhere man · Leave a Comment

Pigs on the Wing is a rare track that John recorded in 2000.   The song was originally written by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd - and appeared on their 1977 concept album, Animals.

John Weber covers it here and interestingly adds on the words ‘punk version’ to the song’s title.  Read more

John Weber, You Never Give Me Your Money, demo

July 26, 2008 by nowhere man · Leave a Comment

This was a working instrumental track that John laid down in May 2002.  I believe the song was going to be a Drunken Failures collaboration. This demo was full of drum machine type clicks to mark the time.  These have now been editted out and some further cleaning up then took place.  I’d love to see the track polished off and put on a new compilation.

John Weber, ‘Drunken Failures’

The Drunken Failure’s old publicist, rags, recalls: “They were a band of old friends (Ehtue, John C, John W, Ian and Nick) who made beautiful music, till one of them got married, the main players got pissed off with each other, and eventually after a glorious final offering, they just disbanded, some of them still playing solo. Some never talk to each other without squabbling, some still play together from time to time. They all try never to look back at their days together, but recently they’ve started to admit that heritage, and even say kind things about what they did back then …” Read more

John Weber, ‘When I Grow Up, I Wanna Be a Rich Dead Rock Star’ Volumes I+II

April 16, 2008 by nowhere man · Leave a Comment

I love being a potential rich dead rock star. I just dont want to be dead, cuz being dead means I might give off a bad smell. And that’s not good. Well, being dead wouldn’t be much fun, I admit. I just want to be rich and get chicks and stuff. If I have to be dead to achieve all this, then so be it. Read more

Cold Hope, Early ThawWell, my frickin album is DONE - eleven original tunes that I wrote and recorded between December of 1999 and June of 2000. And I invite you all to listen to it. Well, at least a few tunes anyway. The music is heavily Beatles and Beach Boys influenced, and if you want to cut to the chase, I recommend “Crossed”, “Cold Hope, Early Thaw”, “Your Side”, and “A Bit Bitter”. Read more

John Weber, ‘Greatest Hits’

John Weber Greatest HitsJohn’s ‘Greatest Hits’ was posthumously released in late December 2005. The compilation was the result of almost a year’s worth of research. A big thanks to John’s many friends across the globe for sending me masses of material. John would often, on a whim, mail out a freshly burned CD of his latest recordings to friends on his favourite usenet forum. Read more
